David.......I have Jim Smith's - Get Better Sound. It is worth its price. Lot's of good advice, written in a casual and easy to understand manner. I think you'll appreciate what it has to offer. Marlene gave it to me last Christmas.

Cyril.......I have already benefited from a couple of Jim Smith's suggestions. I am now using two subwoofers in the studio tube system, and I removed a glass top coffee table I had between the couch and the Guarneri Memento speakers. My sound stage became considerably more focused, just like Jim said. There's lots of good stuff in Get Better Sound.

Absolutely Dan...like you said - a lot of great tips, written in easy to understand terms. I have yet to try his detailed speaker set-up instructions but I believe that will pay significant dividends too. I got it last summer and I go back to it quite frequently to try out different suggestions. Also, just to mention it to prospective buyers, if you buy the book you get on his email list and he sends out a qtrly email blast with additional suggestions to improve one's system. For the $30 it is now going for, it's a no brainer.

Stephen...the book addresses in large part the most neglected part of our hobby and I think the highest return on investment part too, and that is dialing in your system to the room it is playing in. Ofcourse many of us are limited in flexibility in terms of room treatments and so on if the system is in a common living space but even basic things like proper speaker placement and set-up I suspect most of us have not truly optimized. At least this book gives you a reference to pick and chose from to do just that.
