I've been listening to the Sandringhams all day. I've got to say, these speakers really move me. I was told their retail is $5700. Incredible value and seriously musical and engaging speakers. Throwing $22k amps, $12k preamp and $6k cd at them is of course totally out of balance but man what a spectacular result...
More folks should explore the Tannoy Prestige line here in US They are hugely popular overseas and Asia, their biggest market. |

Did you get a chance to also play with the Super Tweeter ST100?

Don't have the supertweet. I don't see why I would need it as I am using the -1.5dB attenuation right now and the tonal balance is perfect for my taste. They have a nice shimmer up top without sounding artificial and there is plenty of air.

I have often though that the Tannoy Glenair would be great speakers for my tube based system....
I have always like what a cocentric driver did (or didn't) do to the music. |

I love them Serge. I have a pair of Tannoy Autograph Mini that I drive with a vintage C34V+MC250. They are my background music system in the living room, but I love the way they sound. The big Tannoys always fascinated me.

I am not very familiar with concentric drivers but I do know I like what I hear. I do believe that the fact it is time and phase coherent preserves the naturalness of the sound without resorting to complex crossovers to compensate. The speaker so far does nothing wrong. It doesn't make excuses for what it doesn't do which is very deep bass but it has a spectacular midrange and a very organing, non-fatiguing, natural sound. In fact, I am falling in love with this speaker.

Yes, like I already mentioned, this speaker is really special in my system and makes me want to listen all day and night long. I can't imagine ever getting tired of it since it doesn't do one thing wrong. It even manages some of the hi-fi tricks in terms of a very spacious soundstage and three dimensional presentation very well. Now that the whole system is tubed, tube CDP, tube pre and tube amps, the sound is lush, musical, coherent, natural and very enjoyable. Spinning vinyl, even on the Technics table presents the soundstage in a very analog/three dimensional way with very organic and round bass, even if it doesn't exactly plumb the depths that Sophia 3 can. |

Tannoy DC's can be quite magical. I have 4 pairs ranging from the HPD, Saturn, and Revolution series.
