Thanks, Dan. Really am enjoying wearing it; it's so "practical" my other watches may not get much wrist time! Ha!

Here's a link to where I believe you picked up your watch (Watchbuys). Check out the "Technology" section. I especially like that some models utilize German submarine stainless steel for their case. Very cool watch company.

I think you will be very happy with it, Dave. As nice as the photographs are, you have to hold it in your hands to fully appreciate just how beautifully built and finished the Sinn 104 is. Everything smacks of quality, precision, and execution on this piece.

I don't think they make watches for women, but the smaller sized 656, which is a 38.5 mm case, might work for women that don't mind wearing a slightly larger sized watch.

Sinn 104 I St Sa on Strap
Yes, WatchBuys is the only dealer in North America, and they only sell direct; there is no brick and mortar store you can go in NA and see and buy this watch. They are a very good dealer, though, and you can return any watch within 3 days with no restocking fee if you don't like it as long as you do not put the watch on your wrist.

For example, many of their EZM and Tegimented watches have tegimented steel or titanium hardening of the case material. This takes a 316 stainless steel case from a hardness of approx 150 Vickers to 1200 Vickers hardness. So, a $1600 Sinn 856 Tegimented has a case that is literally 8X harder than an Omega Speedmaster. This means you cannot ding or dent the case, bezel, or bracelet in normal wear. Combined with a sapphire crystal, you simply cannot garf up this watch in everyday use. Imagine a "beater watch" you could wear everday for years and still have it look like new. The watches utilizing the German submarine steel are also tegimented.

The other technological innovation is their inert argon gas-filled cases and innovative moisture protection technology. These watches use a specially-made seals that admits 75% less water vapor into the case, are filled with inert argon gas to keep the interior dry (dry in chemistry terms means free from water or water vapor), and if that was not enough, feature a special copper sulfate capsule that irreversably binds water vapor. As the capsule binds water it changes to a blue color, and once fully saturated, it can be replaced with a fresh capsule at a service center. The capsule color is viewable from a small inspection window on the side of one of the lugs. This means that if you're a pilot or a diver, and go from a warm and humid environment to a cold one very quickly, the dial will not fog up. Also, the dry atmosphere extends the service interval because the lubricants do not degrade from the presence of water vapor in the case.

Sinn also has a DIAPAL technology that uses a patented escapement that requires no oil, also providing much greater durability and longer service intervals.

Lastly, Sinn has watches that are TESTAF certified as "professional pilot watches"; these models have to pass a series of rigorous tests developed at the University of Aachen to certify, and the German standards bureau DIN will be adopting TESTAF specification for certifying other professional pilot watches.

They also make a series of watches specifically for use by firemen.

Sinn has implemented technological innovations that virtually no one else has. Omega, Breitling and Rolex, the other Swiss manufactures, etc. have nothing like this. Rolex uses a 904 stainless steel on their steel models that is harder than 316, but it is still ~3X less hard than Sinn's tegimented steel.

Sinn: no frills, no frou-frou, no f**ckin' around!

Just my kinda company!

Ah, cool, you've got a sapphire Flieger chronometer, then!

Walked into a high end jewelry store in Walnut Creek today to get a tan Hirsch strap for the 104, and guy there had never heard of Sinn.
