Up to 2006 and 2007, I used to have a stable of pristine Tenshodo solid brass handmade and other collectible Union Pacific HO locomotives (Big Boys, Challengers, 4-12-2 "Union Pacifics", etc...) and some rolling stock and plans to have a grand layout someday. I thought John Allen was a genious and wished for his skills at creating those believable miniature worlds...) at certain point I had to make a choice between trains and higher end audio, so the trains went and we are where we find ourselves today... Still miss the trains but music is more important, at least for me, daily... |

Dave - those are great. You should host a fall meeting of the SEPAS so we can play with your RR.
On your next trip west you should ride the Shay at Georgetown, CO and the CO Railroad Museum in Golden. They are great engines with all the rods flying up and down on the side cranks while only move a few mph. Most impressive.

Glenn, I love the little ride on the 'Loop' between Georgetown and Silver Plume, ridden it many times. As for seeing Shay's in all their glory there is but one place, Cass, WV.

What a dilemma! I’ve been a train nut since I was 4 years old and my uncle gave me a ride on the footplate of a steam Switcher. Initially I was terrified but quickly turned to enjoyment. Best part was him cooking bacon and eggs on the coal shovel in the firebox. What a wonderful meal. Here I am 71 years later with trains everywhere. Around 140 locos running in the attics and live steam running round the garden. High end audio started for me around 12 years later and I would hate to give up either hobby. How on Earth my wife will cope after ive gone I just don’t know. I’ve tried to document my train collection to make disposal easier but it won’t be easy. |

Selling off those Tenshodo Brass HO was a temporary heartbreak but along with some work income it allowed me to experience upper end Esoteric digital and Edge NL amps and other things so it is legacy but the results of which I enjoyed for many years. A fair trade of passions when all is said and done. Last edited by SCAudiophile; 05-29-2020 at 05:24 AM. |

Yes, I have started to sort that out. The valuable items will be handled by a long term dealer I have dealt with. Some commonplace stuff will be EBay Ed by trustees and some items will be left to friends.
My European equivalent of Tenshodo brass will be MicroMetakit and MicroFeinmechanik who produce museum quality brass locos of mostly German prototypes. I have maybe 30 of their locos as well as a smattering of US models by Westside and other brass producers. I think your trading your locos for high end stereo must have been tough. I’m not sure how I would handle that. I found it easier to sell some antiques and paintings to fund the hifi! These hobbies can be expensive |
