Well, I'm lovin' the Urushi already...it sounds AMAZING. Has the weight and fullness of my Grado Sonata and even more resolution than the Shelter. The instrumental and vocal timbres, highs, imaging, decay, and particularly the mids are to die for. It's also incredibly quiet in the groove; it reminds me of a Dynavector XV-1S in that regard.

The irony is that and it's not even properly loaded yet; my Cinemag SUT from Bob's Devices should arrive in a few days and then I should really be able to hear what it's capable of.

Will post some pix of it on the arm tomorrow when I have some natural light. It's brilliant red color looks very striking on the black SME V.

A beautiful cartridge - I am sure you will be very pleased once it is dialed in.

Here are a couple with it on the SME V. Photographers on the forum will be interested to note that I used a piece of white mat board to provide some "bounce fill" to get enough light on the Urushi to be able to shoot this in natural and available light.

Looks like it's riding a little tail low here, so tonight I am going to play with VTA a little. Easy to do on an SME V!

Thanks, guys. I raised the arm to be pretty close to perfectly parallel (the two white lines on the SME V arm tube are for checking VTA with the protractor/VTA gauge), and it's added some additional detail to the highs and tightened up the bass. I'm hearing some stuff for the first time in my records. As Jeff pointed out when he got his Avid Acutus set up, it's amazing how much information is really in those little grooves.

Hi Puma

Will be interesting how the new SUT works out. Personally I did not have great results ( not bad, just not great) with my Koetsu Rosewood and EAR 834P - they just did not seem to gel.

Shane,
Were you using a SUT or just the EAR? Do you think it might have been an impedance issue or?

What are you using now for a phono stage for your Koetsu?
