New McIntosh head unit for car.
Question for Ivan, or anyone who knows.
Does McIntosh have any plans to update the MX406 head unit? They make an outstanding 2-channel amp, MCC602TM. Best I've heard for car audio. Sensuous Sounds, a McIntosh dealer in Tampa, FL did a complete McIntosh system for me in a BMW 540i back in 1999. They did an outstanding job. Completely rebuilt the rear deck to accommodate two 10" JL Audio subs in a sealed enclosure. MB Quart speakers, 5 1/4" front door & 6 1/2" rear. Four Audio Control EQL's and three Mcintosh amps were mounted in trunk, behind custom glass enclosure, lighted. They even took apart the front door panels, making custom color matched metal grills, to cover two 6 1/2" JL mid-bass drivers in each door. Transformed the lower door storage compartment into speaker enclosures (these had there own Audio Control EQL, AC x-over & 2-channel 100 watt McIntosh amp). Of course the system was tuned using RTA. Also has bass sub-woofer control knob neatly mounted in the dash, a must have. Thanks Shawn, job well done!!! The beauty of this system besides obvious sound quality was the factory look of the car was retained. In the dash they used MX406 and stacked under that was the MPM4000 meter. Very cool! And trimmed out with stain matched Burl wood to match BMW's wood grain trim. It took them a full month to complete the project, but wow, what a system. And in the very quiet 5 series. Anyway, sorry for rambling-on. But obviously the MX406 has been out for a while. Any plans for a new model?

LJ does great work over in Tampa, he is a good friend of mine. He did a number of my Porsches in the past.

I don't think Mac has any intention of updating any of their mobile audio line, sadly enough. A lot of it was even scaled back (I don't think they make the DAC anymore, and the changer is quite hard to come by)...
