Steve.......In the United States of America the Second Amendment to our Constitution is not a "so called right", far from it. I can appreciate and respect your embracing the laws of your country. As a decorated United States military veteran, who took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, believe me when I say I fully appreciate and respect the laws of my country. There is nothing positive to be gained here through existential pontification. I think we shall have to agree to disagree, and leave it at that.

I was going to really get into this topic but changed my mind. It's just not worth it. We are all entitled to our own opinions.

I'll leave you anti-gun Australian residents with this little fact to consider.

Australia:
In the year 2002–2003, over 85% of firearms used to commit murder were unregistered.[27] In 1997–1999, more than 80% of the handguns confiscated were never legally purchased or registered in Australia.[28] Knives are used up to three times as often as firearms in robberies.[29] The majority of firearm-related deaths are suicides, of which many involved the use of 'hunting rifles'.

You can take the guns from the law abiding citizens but you can't take them away from the criminals. That fact is the same world wide.

I would personally be rather legally armed and ready than not. You may disagree and that's fine with me.

There is nothing positive to be gained here through existential pontification, not to mention being way off the original poster's topic. I think we shall have to agree to disagree, and leave it at that.
I understand your sentiment. Unfortunately, humanity as a whole does not have the fortitude for self preservation. I hope it does not take a major threat to our existence to change our collective mindset as the dominant species on this ball of rock we all live on.

You may want to pass that on to Iran and North Korea.

Sorry Dan, I should have said ... the rest of the developed world. By this I mean - the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Countries with functioning law enforcement. We are not talking about failed states like Yemen, Somalia, or Liberia; war zones like Iraq or Afghanistan; or countries which are so vast that there are areas of lawlessness like Brazil, Indonesia, or China.

We're doing much better now & the incident rate per capita is declining since Australia's responsible gun laws were initiated.

Steve......You don't understand my point at all if you think it is sentiment. My comments above reflect a solid commitment to American values. Trying to trivialize what I said doesn't alter my position one bit. There is a world of difference in our philosophies, and I'm alright with that. I don't plan to move to Australia, so I think I'm safe with my ideals.
