I'm all for women being proficient with firearms. Marlene and I have shot our weapons together at many gun ranges through the years. I have spent time with her, and she can do a three round four inch group at 30 feet without a problem with her Ruger .38 Special.

Before retiring I traveled often, and she would be alone for days, sometimes weeks or months depending on my projects. I wanted to make sure she was able to protect herself if the situation ever arrived. She is confident and secure handling her weapon, and I know she can hit the target. It's good to be able to think of her as a solid backup.

Frankly, I wish every law abiding citizen, male and female, carried a concealed weapon. There would be a hell of a lot less crime if criminals knew their chance of successful flight was slim no matter where they try their dirty deeds. The best use of lethal power is to spread it among everyone. There would be far less opportunity to abuse lethal power without immediate repercussion.

If our right to bear ARMS is ever taken from us the only people that will have guns will be the government and criminals.

Dan, Ted does have a point. Anyone, anywhere should have the basic right to be able to defend his or her life from a violent criminal who is trying to take it. Sadly that is not the case in many parts of the world but Thank God, our country has still resisted and persevered in the face of the constant threat of having that basic right taken away from us.

Serge.......I agree. I am in Ted's camp. I do not require any government blessing to defend my life against anyone wishing to do me or my loved ones harm.

Actually the rest of the world does very well without being armed to the hilt like you guys. I am glad that over here, it is very hard to get hold of a gun.

A friend once said to me - "if I were Osama bin Laden and wanted to kill lots of Americans, I would simply give a large donation to the NRA". He's right. The number of gun related deaths in the USA every year is ten times the number of people killed in 9/11.
+1. Australian's are most fortunate to have legislated passed wild colonialistic paranoia of what remains inherent of a feudal society.
