I will be going with the Bluesound Node X and their phone app.
Roon crashed on me, again, after about an hour & 10 minutes of play time. It's no longer on my laptop. Since I won't be using the NAS as the Roon Core I won't have to update the RAM nor do I need to download and configure Synology's server and remote app packages. I will take out the RPI and sell it on to a new owner. BluOS won't care about having the reclocker in the signal path so I'll leave it in place.

Congratulations Michael, I think you’ll be happy with it.

Well, it's been some months since I implemented the BlueSound Node solution and I must say it works very well.
I made an ethernet connection from the NAS to the Node, a WW optical cable from the Node's output to the reclocker and a second WW optical cable from the reclocker to my DAC. Learning how to use the BlueSound app did not take long and, even though the GUI is different from Roon's, it was not unfamiliar to me. Let me say I do appreciate all the input, I am very happy that this solution worked.
