20amp to 15amp cheater plugs
has anyone used a plug to continue using an older 20amp on a source? Did the cheater seem to compromise quality?

Ray.......I use Voo Doo 15 Amp to 20 Amp IEC adapter on my PurePower 2000 AC regenerator. Works perfectly with no issues.

I thought a 20amp plug looked like this?

Jim.......You are correct. Your photo is a NEMA 20 amp male cord connector. I may have misunderstood what Ray was asking. My adapter is for adapting a 15 amp IEC power cord to a 20 amp IEC connector on a component.

Interestingly, I just sent an email to Shunyata last Friday asking them this very question. This is the answer.
Question: > I have two Python CX power cords with the 20 amp connectors. If I get new amps with 15 amp sockets will I hear any performance degradation if I use your 20 to 15 amp adapters? > Answer: The adapters are typically used for short term evaluations rather than long term solutions. However, many customers have still used these adapters for situations like the one you find yourself in. If we were to take a guess on a percentage difference between with the connector and without, we would feel there would be a 10% loss or less when power cables are used with these adapters. Some customers have evaluated them side by side and have not heard a differences and others have. |

what i was trying to find out was the effectiveness of a cheater plug on the distal end of a 20 amp power cord which goes into your gear( the proximal end goes into wall). the distal end 20 amp is a four sided rectangle, the 15 amp is a 6 sided flat roof. i want to take my 20 amp which is the pc on a hydra, fit it with an adopter so it can be used on a source component.
thanks guys Last edited by rlw3; 05-30-2013 at 03:51 PM. |
