Gardening (if that a hobby?)

After we spent most of the winter on the French Riviera, it is time to get back to getting the yard into shape. Have gotten about 1/4 of the beds cleaned and mulched and hope to have finished in another week. Azaleas are ready to 'pop' for a glorious display of color. Just back from the nursery and its time to start filling pots with pansies, geraniums, petunias & begonias. Roses & iris have started budding, so spring is here. Pic of the flowers for the back of the house (not sure why it uploads sideways). Similar for our front and side.

Not much of a gardener myself & the wife refuses - she was born on a farm and spent every available minute working with the family - primarilly veggies designated in a 6-acre area of the farm. The remaining 50 plus acres was allotted to growing hay for the cattle.

Then helping neighbors with their tobacco fields. She has some stories - and don't blame her a bit.

I, myself love working in the yard -- and our flower gardens/roses. Find it refreshing and rewarding.

Glenn it is nice to finally get out and about. I get about two days of gardening a season out of my wife but we do enjoy it all year long. Currently building some retainer wall and prepping planting beds before the planting season starts.

Doug - are your pic's from this year? If so, am surprised how far ahead of us you are in MI. Our lily's are doing well, but just barely starting to bud.

Got about halfway thru the front today. Hope to finish planting the petunias & portulaca tomorrow and get the mulch down before the afternoon rain.

No that was late spring/beginning summer last year. Actually we are behind you. We had a very mild winter but the winds tended to dry things out more. My roses had more die back than normal. They are only about an inch or two budded out. The grass is just starting to turn green.

Most of my time so far this year has been build a retaining wall. I’m getting too old for project like that.

Like you, a warm & very wet winter, up to just last week when we got back home. After mid-80s yesterday and 75 today, we are dropping back into the 60s for the next 10 days. Hopefully, nothing cold enough to hurt the plants or, especially, our local peaches, which are fantastic in a good year.
