Default Bruce Springsteen - Springsteen On Broadway

IMG_1924.JPG
My double CD set showed up today thanks to Amazon Prime. I immediately started planning when I could sneak upstairs to my room and give it a listen. ‘She who must be obeyed’ gave me an opening when she said she had to run some errands.

After 2 1/2 half hours (my wife had been home for an hour) I emerged from a journey that took me from that multi-ethnic NJ neighborhood and local environs that shaped the Bruce we all know then across the river to the scary city of New York and then 1 + 1 = 3. Bruce + The E-Street Band = Greatness.

This is not a performance you listen to casually and perhaps very often. If you are a devout fan, it is something that will leave you moved, even more a fan. If you are a casual fan, it provides a deep insight into who he is and might make you a devout fan wanting to know when his next stadium concert is. If you rarely listen to Bruce’s music, avoid this.

The performance is reserved for those that want to know him. Those that want to share his life stories, his strengths, weaknesses and his insecurities - then reach out and help him help you.

If you have read ‘Born To Run’ his autobiography, you know many of the stories he tells. When I read it over the course of a few days, I listened to his music and it was one of the most enjoyable times of my audiophile life. With Bruce choosing the music to his stories (or is it him telling stories to his music?), everything takes on more meaning.

It is fun, informative, sad, joyous and entertaining and the best money I have spent on our hobby in sometime. Now I cant wait for it to be on Netflix.

What an entertainer.
