When I first auditioned and then owned the K-XR, it was a revolutionary preamp for me. Never heard anything quite as good up until that point. I wasn’t as impressed with the MX-R. So the full Ayre combo never materialized for me. When I heard the D’Agostino Momentum Monos, it was another revolutionary item in terms of amplification for me. I owned 3 Momentum Monos for a 2 channel/Home theater setup with Wilson Sasha then Alexia. Dan D’Agostino was only putting the finishing touches on his preamp at the time. When I finally got a chance to audition the D’Agostino preamp, I thought it wasn’t quite on par with the Momentum Monos and took some life out of them. I think he may have made some changes to it during that time. That’s were my audio journey stopped all together.
I have not heard the newer D’Agostino products since that time but really should give them a listen out of curuousity. |

Not so fast. I can't say too much, but he had a few other projects in progress that we may or may not see. Hope we do.

I recently had a series of e-mail exchanges with Charlie where he gave me some great advice regarding my system. In my opinion, he treated his customers as he would have liked to be treated if the shoe was on the other foot. |

It will be interesting to see who will take over product design duties. I think Ayre has rediscovered its niche as a player in the high performance at a reasonable price segment. It seemed over the last several years that this segment was a considerable source of growth and increasingly the focus of the company versus the cutting edge price no limit segment which has increasingly been left to wither on the vine (the - R series seems to be an afterthought these days).

The R series is doing very good I was told. Again, it goes up against most of the very expensive stuff from others as it's as good or even better than many of them. They have some very strong engineers and I believe they all buy into what Charile thought was sound engineering practices for audio. I'm not worried for the immediate future.
