Thanks again! Slightly different from mine, but I guess I pieced most of it toghether at this point. Any input on how to use the hum pots would be much appreciated. Also, it has a second switch in the back in addition to the on off B+ switch. Do users leave the back switch on all the time or do you turn if off and on?

Here are the culprits, the transformer burned out due to overvoltage, the electrolytic capacitor makes thick jaws, a small component, probably a resistor and the fuse had to be replaced. The little one now works as it should and sounds fantastic with the rest of the system. what a thunderstorm nearby can do if you're unlucky.

It's auto-bias. Use a 5U4G rectifier with 2A3 tubes and a 5Y3 with 45 tubes. IMHO, stick with the 6SL7 input tube. |

Can I use a globe 80 rectifier in my FireBottle KT88 SE amp in place of the 5U4G?
Thanks! Chris |

Chris - No,not directly. An 80 is a 4 pin tube, a 5U4G is an 8 pin tube.
However you can buy an adapter. |

Was over at the shop last week, and had a chance to run a complete system of my own through the Inspire speakers. it consisted of my 5755 phono preamp, my 27/56 pre amp (LP-27 prototype) and the 816 powered Slammer.
Untitled by analog addict, on Flickr And I can honestly say it sounded pretty good. Guess I'm slowly learning... Speaking of sounding good, Here's a brand new, still available KT-88 Firebottle with a new front end tube Dennis really likes, a 6C8G tube with adapter. Untitled by analog addict, on Flickr Untitled by analog addict, on Flickr I believe its currently running with 6F6Gs and a 5Y3 rectifier. It does sound really nice. Dennis would like $2,000 plus shipping. PM me with any questions or to order... |
