Eliminate the cabinet. Eliminate assigning low frequency duty to your amplifier. Think outside of the box - Literally. Problem solved.

Well, I'm using an active Subwoofer, crossed at 80 Hz, so that is taking care of low frequencies loading my Inspire. Open baffle speakers, I hear these have their own tradeoffs too. My gear sounds just right to my ears, but I was wondering what the high sensitivity specs are taking away from the speakers' sound potential. What is the sensitivity in those OB's? Thanks!

For what you listen to I'd stay with 6L6's/KT66. Spend a bit more and get the GL KT66.

One you get a few power tube you really like concentrate on input tubes and consider changing the coupling caps.

It's not a perfect world. Everything's a tradeoff. Dual subs are better than one sub, in my experience. And all "subs" aren't created equal, like all speakers aren't. I've never experienced tighter nor more musical bass than produced by these very affordable Augie 15" sub drivers. Sensitivity is overrated in my experience, for everyone listens differently. There are too many listening variables. Jazz and Classical lovers on average aren't attempting to blast the walls down like the stereotypical R&R listener. Young listeners have different volume demands than older listeners. I don't have HT demands, and operate solely a 2 channel system. I'm pushing Martin Logan Electrostats with a Dennis Had Fire Bottle KT88...it has all the volume one reasonably requires in an average sized room. Those OB's were rated somewhere in the higher 90 range...all that was required to drive them was an affordable plate amp on the subs, and a 3 watt SET on the 15" mid drivers.

My SPL needs are also modest, no HT, almost exclusively Jazz and classical, near field, small listening room, and while I'm very happy as it is, I would like maybe some more "slam" (not loudness) from certain classical music passages. Definitely, the theoretical 98 dBs at 8 Ohms rated sensitivity on my current speakers help a lot.

Interesting about the Martin Logan Electrostats. I thought those would be prohibitively insensitive for the Inspire KT-88, that I also own. I guess it all depends on the particular SPL needs. I'm definitely considering a stereo Sub setup in the future. Thanks for the pointers.

I have Martin Logan Electromotion ESL's that I have had hooked up to my Inspire KT88 and the volume and sound quality were excellent. I do have a ML Dynamo 700 sub hooked up with the Inspire only handling >100hz signals. It is a very good way to run these amps.

I replaced the coupling caps in the LP27a with Jupiter HT copper foil/beeswax. They have to settle in but so far a good move in my rig.
