New MC2.1kw

I'm not a Mac guy, but I think they look pretty good - but no matter what they do, some won't like it and will have suggestions for what they should do instead. There may yet be an anniversary MC75 or 275, but if not, it'll probably be because the MC75 is pretty dated in a time where audio companies are chasing the money with big beastie amps in the luxury high-end market.

I doubt (hope that I won't) that I will buy one in 2025. I will have the money but why do I need one? My 1.25KW easily powers my Thor and I have two extras. As far as the criticisms I can't understand them. How can you say there are no "useable" improvements?? The solid cinch binding posts are alone a huge improvement. With the old Mac binding posts I had to continually check that they were tight and these old binding posts IMO never made a really good connection to the speaker cables. I did not like them at all. In addition it sounds like virtually every critical part was significantly upgraded inside the amps and much better heat sinks. This amp is totally competitive with a Relentless or any of the European super amps at less than one third of their price. And it will deliver the watts without the need for 240 volts. All in all a magnificent piece of gear. It's nit picking in the extreme to criticize the bling. I hope that I can find the strength not to buy one.

p.s. this is a classic case of criticism by folks who won't be buying one. This is a solid state super amp absolutely beautifully rendered that I personally would rather have than anything on the world market, price disregarded. At 50K per amp it is an absolute steal.

One thing that I have learned about subs: power conditioners, 20-amp lines, cords, IC's and amplification are just as important as they are for the mains. When you look at what Mac has accomplished with the new PS2K sub, the new MC2.1KW, and the new XRT2.1K it makes for a system that is competitive with anything on the market. Together with the C-12000 and MCD 12000 this places McIntosh at the pinnacle of the high end along with just a few other manufacturers like Dag, Wilson, Magico, Boulder etc. I'm quite impressed at the vision Mac has had. It's a tremendous engineering and manufacturing accomplishment.

Times change, certainly, the old Mac reference is still competitive. But you had to go outside Mac with JL Gotham subs for the XRT2K. I'm not saying that the old reference wasn't superb but I would prefer the new reference system with the new Mac sub and 2.1KW amp. I also noted that the the 2.1KW has the chamfered feet. My friend at TAS has just seen the amp: "WOW" was his initial impression and he is not easily impressed. It was mine too. I have the 2.1KW in my crosshairs for my Thor.

McIntosh informed one of my customers that the MC2.1KW’s will only be sold in pairs. A total of 75 pairs produced per Country.

I'd imagined that would be for the 75th Anniversary edition. The non-anniversary would rollout at some point.
