Any Cyclists Out There? What Are You Riding?

Hi gang,

I'm trying to get into road cycling. Looking for a full carbon cycle. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Riding a Cervelo Soloist Carbon. Purchased in 2008, and still enjoying from time to time. I have switch over to mostly MTB riding in the last 2 years. I like the aero properties of the bike. Not sure what kind of riding or roads you will be riding on, but the Cervelo RS models might be more forgiving on not so smooth roads.

I suggest get a proper fitting at a local bike shop so you know exactly what size bike to get, and then either buy from that shop or on Craigslist. The fitting is crucial. You won't want to ride if the bike is not comfortable. Carbon is great, steel is at least as comfortable but heavier, and older aluminum is not comfortable at all, but I've read that the newer aluminum is better. Take time to educate yourself and you'll be glad you did.

I have a CUBE Peloton Race Triple white blue'n'red print. Only the fork is carbon but it's enough for my use of it.



I've upgraded the saddle to a fizik which is much more confortable than the original. I think I will change the wheels next but I don't know where to go.

Aha! I've got a hand built Dedaccai zero replica steel frame with Campagnolo Chorus groupset, with a few Cult ceramic upgrades, and Zonda wheels. Not made to quite the same standard as Richard Sachs, but it's only 18.3 lbs and goes like a train, and a nice work of art at the same time.

In 1980 I had a custom bike built on a Fuji America frame. It is dated now, but I still smile when I ride it.

I selected all the components-no groupos. Modolo brakes, Shimano DuraAce hubs, derailleurs and shifters, Avocet triple crankset w/Campagnolo rings, Edouard Dubiet bottom bracket (it was the only one that was sealed at the time) Cinelli stem and handlebar, Champion rims, Look pedals. Other parts don't come to mind since it was built a long time ago. Now, I just ride it and don't concern myself with changes or upgrades.

I'm with you on the upgrade problem. Super record is not really suitable, Carbon frames are not for daily beater use, the same for carbon wheels, and a campy upgrade to lose 80g's and have slightly better bearings isn't worth it IMO. I'm at the plateau where all else is secondary.

But getting a second bike for winter with a bit of vim, now there's the rub.
