I've been following this thread closely, but just out of curiosity because I've never owned any MS-XXX component. But I like a lot of what McIntosh does and own a few of its products. So while I'm interested in the MS-XXX saga, I'm detached from the outcome.

Here's my observation: It's really unfortunate that McIntosh does not support these MS-XXX products better. I realize that the company may be in a tough position, in part because of its sale from D&M to Fine Sounds, but I think the company should work to improve the ownership experience for those who have these products. It's difficult to imagine that McIntosh couldn't provide better service, or continue the Gracenote capability, or offer some reassurance that these products won't soon become nothing but a doorstop. In a worst-case scenario, it would be nice if the company offered a significant credit to owners towards the purchase of another McIntosh product. That would show that it cares about its customers.

I'm not trying to beat up on McIntosh. But consider this: When my McIntosh MR-80 suffered a shattered faceplate on its way to Audio Classics for service a few years back, McIntosh made a brand new faceplate for me to replace the original. Compare that degree of commitment to what's happening to those who own a MS-XXX product, and it's hard to imagine the same manufacturer made each.

Again, I'm not trying to be hard on McIntosh. But I think they can do a better job supporting those who own these MS-XXX products.

I know we all agree with you. Maybe you could air your well written piece with the Mc folks also.

[QUOTE=sgbroimp;745930..Question: Were your crashes (re-boot requiring) on any sort of schedule, like my once a week?[/QUOTE]

I never discerned any kind of a schedule, although it is possible--sometimes I'll go a day or two without listening to my server.

My sense is that it has been random--start up fine for 2-3 consecutive attempts, then the next time requiring a reboot.

Honestly, if I could be assured that every time I need to reboot it would be successful, I would happily live with this anomaly. I look at my MS300 as a ticking time bomb--will today be the day the power supply/hard drive/OS crashes permanently?.

Did you have the power supply rebuilt? I think we all agree that is a basic minimum if one wishes to hold on to these. There have been no reports of units failing that have had that done based on reports in this forum that I recall unless the unit had other issues also of course.

For info, I got through both Tues and Wed with no startup issues. Now Saturday is the next hurdle.

Your MSxxx has really taken on a life of it's own!

I have two MS750, and both do not require reboot every week or every month. So I don't know why some of us here are having the problem. I do know that I have to manually enter the CD information when I import a new CD into the server, because theses units can not access Gracenote anymore.
Am I lucky?

By the way, one of my MS750 has the new micro-power supply. The other one still has the original power supply.

Well last night the unit froze up. Ran it once for an hour (I-Radio), shut down for maybe 20 minutes, then started it again. It fired up, played the I-Radio station it had been tuned to for a few seconds, stopped playing and all panel controls locked. Re-boot successful, but apparently dis-enabling the auto update feature did not solve my issue. Yes, the machine I love......to hate.

Bummer. I really thought turning off the updates would do it for you.

One last thing...try this same test but with your Ethernet cable removed. It's worth a shot.
