Thanks all - I am about 9 feet from the speakers and they are about 9 feet apart.
It would seem (also based on some pics on the web) that people tend to have them closer to the wall. I'm thinking I'll try 3 ft and remeasure the room from that distance. I assume the reading from the listening position will change as I move the speakers around (but not sure on that point). Last edited by Mikeoz; 03-23-2015 at 06:49 AM. |

I don't have a clue how well these calculators work . . . just ran across this page as I was musing your question. I do know well the reputation of the Cardas set-up schemes though - and this does seem to make it easy.

Interesting - the 29% rule puts them less than 4' from the front wall whilst the Cardas system suggests further out than I currently have them. I have a L shaped room which doesn't help with the calculations. I did however email Cardas maybe they will give me some specific advice.

Would have never thought! Well maybe I did but I kept my B&W 802Ds close to the front wall for looks. Anyhow this morning I pulled them away from the wall and I must say they sound GREAT!!!@! The room is a good size (18'wide x 36' long) so keeping them close to the front wall was keeping them from sounding as good as they could be. I pulled out to 4' from the front wall and let it rip. If you haven't tried it, you should. You may be in for a surprise

Without knowing any more I say to try moving closer to the wall; I'd start at 2-˝ feet. Angle one speaker at your ear and the other just outside your other ear. Maybe you can put the casters on? That should make it simple. Otherwise I've used carpet glides with a quarter between each one and its spike. |

Great suggestion. Mine are spiked and moving them around is a nightmare never thought of carpet coasters. I think I need to experiment. My only issue with the sound is slightly lightweight bass perhaps I can improve the situation without losing too much of the soundstage.

A half an inch can make all the difference. My buddy and I spent five hours moving within a one foot circle till we got it right.
