The P-03U was the last transport that will play DVD-A and DVD-V.

The P03 (non-universal) is a CD (or any other Redbook format like XRCD,...)/SACD transport.

Given the release date of the Esoteric P-03U & D-03 combo. Which single box release since would match it for sound quality for CD and SACD ?

I had both the UX-1 Limited and the P03U/D03. The later was a big upgrade....

Grandioso K1 would match and beat the older combo.

P02/D02 combo (older units) to me beat the K1 in sound as the 2-box is more transparent and has better bass response. The K1 was more rounded up top and did not dive as resoundingly deep and impactfully in the bass department. THE K1X now solves that of course. All IMHO...

I have the P-03/D-03 setup. The transport should give you solid performance, but you may be happier with a more current DAC. If you do get an Esoteric setup, you should also get the clock, it's a must.

P-03U with upgraded DAC would give me DVD-A with future Dac upgrades is a nice option.
Thanks

The transport is beautifully built and I think the unit that will improve less than the DAC. I have the P-03/D-03/G0-Rb clock. The clock made an astounding difference. At the time, the clock was $16K. That is part of my home front end.

While overseas (I am out of the US most of the time), I bought a second Esoteric system, the 30th Anniversary K-03X, and after a few months, the G-02X clock, which again, made a major difference, but it's price was around $5K. I have not been able to compare both systems, but I suspect the latter is better. If you get this system, I strongly urge you to talk to Ivan about the clock.

I think you will be very happy with your system.
