Question, can the Ruby 5U4GC rectifier tube be switched to something else in the future? They are not easy to find.

Hi,
As far as I know, Ruby has never made tubes. they only bought large batches and printed their label. it should be compatible with any 5U4.

Many thanks Analog Addict and cgn-dt-n!

Love the amp! Just want spare tubes so I can enjoy it well into the future!

Already purchased several G-807 and 6SL7GT tubes as spares.

Default owner's manual for Inspire LP-2 preamp?

Is it possible to obtain an "owner's manual" for the Inspire LP-2 preamp? I purchased mine secondhand and none was included. Even a link to the manual in PDF format would be great.
Thanks!

Ooh! The 807 has become my favorite output tube! I keep coming back to the vt60a which is a British military 807 usually labeled as a Cossor if it has a brand at all. I also love the 5b/254m, another British 807 tube. That one has a completely different base though so you might not be able to adapt it in your amp. My friend swears by the Sylvania 5933 so that might be worth checking out too.

I’m not sure there were any bad sounding 807 tubes. I will say that some tubes won’t sound great with the same input tube so it pays to have some other input tubes to try as well. What is that, a 6sl7 input tube? Lots of great versions of that tube at pretty reasonable prices. Have fun!

That 6kg6 amp looks like it’s going to be killer. I might have asked before but I forget, are there any things to worry about when it comes to mercury rectifiers? Gaseous mercury certainly sounds nasty.

Actually, the only info I need on the Inspire LP-2 preamp is the output impedance and the output voltage. Does anyone have that info?
Thanks!
Chris

Per Dennis...the output impedance of the LP-2 is 800 ohms. Maximum output is 18V at less than 1% distortion.

Personally, I like the 5933...

Default more PSE GK6'er

Went over to the shop after work, and started doing the mock up for space considerations and wound up with this configuration...

Here's the mostly finished layout. Looks like I may be able to talk Straitwire into doing the actual cutting now that I have it laid out. It will definitely look more professional if he does it with punches, vs me drilling it.

This development may take the project out of my hands for 2-4 weeks, so I'm thinking about grabbing another of those reject chassis and working on a design that we've been talking about at the shop, a 396a preamp...

Stay tuned.

Default Last but not least...

...a brand new 300b-v. An amazing amp bested only by the PSE version. I would be very happy to own this amp, but it is already spoken for...

:-(
