I also waned to quickly mention that I am not entirely sure why re-seating the CPU board fixed my issue. It was not loose and I had not handled or moved my MX-150 for several months. Possibly even over a year.. None of the socket attachments were loose either. In fact, all my fasteners and socket attachments were on with a comparative death grip. The only thing I can think of that may play a role is that the the voltage spike/surge/whatever caused some sort of residual charge to be stored that was messing with the CPU operation and by removing and re-seating the CPU it discharged that residual voltage. Another possibility is perhaps the CPU re-seating caused the motherboard to boot from a lower state (almost like a manual factory reset).

Whatever the reason, it did work and it was a recommended procedure by McIntosh, so it appears they know what they are doing. If any of this gives you a weak stomach, either have your local Mc dealer do it or send it in to McIntosh. I personally MUCH prefered doing this myself vs. waiting for weeks and spending hundreds to have McIntosh do something that only took me 20 minutes to do!

Thank you for taking the time to write down your very detailed instructions along with the photo, as this will be of great benefit to others.

Great job and happy listening!

Thank you for the detailed instructions! My MX150 has the same symptoms described and I'm trying to reseat the daughter CPU. Unfortunately the photo that were posted no longer work... does anyone have a copy of the photos that went with these instructions?

Thanks

FYI: I'm the original poster with the fix, but this was so long ago I may not even have the pictures anymore. I will take a look and see if I can them NAS, but its a bit of a long shot.. Having said this, if you happen to take the top cover off your MX-150, take a picture and post it up and I can see if I can talk you through what to do.

Thank you again for the detailed instructions, they made much more sense without the photos once I had it opened up. I've also attached links to recreated photos per your instruction if others run into this issue.

This procedure however did not fix my issue and upon further investigation it appears the relay that switches from standby to main power has tested bad.
The symptom of a flashing red LED standby light is just saying that for some reason the secondary CPU has not booted in a certain amount of time which can be caused by any of the following:
-Corrupted firmware card
-Board needs to be re-seated
-physical component failure causing no power

I'll update this once I get mine fixed with more details into the relay component failure.

Photos to go with instructions for board reseat:
