Old School Vampire Cables
I am using Vampire interconnect OFC cables with rca ends on my secondary sound system; the cables I purchased in the mid 1990s with the braided copper shield visible underneath the clear cable jacket. Given the system's location in a secondary bedroom/office (12' x 14'), I'm content with the equipment. Should I be concerned about these older interconnects noticeably limiting this modest system? If yes, any recommendations or direction would be appreciated. I would need 3 pair of rca interconnects, each pair 2 meters long. My flexible budget is around $700. I'm ok with used cable in good condition.
My equipment is as follows: Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV amplifier/receiver OPPO BDP-83 disc player HIFIMAN HE400i headphones Paradigm Titan v5 front speakers Paradigm Titan v1 rear speakers Paradigm CC290 v5 center channel Velodyne CF Series subwoofer I use the system for home theater (obviously) and listening to classical music (Beethoven, etc.). Thank you |

The best way to figure this out is to try a modern set of interconnects. The Cable Co. runs a cable library where for a modest sum you can borrow and try out a number of cables before you buy them.

I'm with W9TR, but even more so.
Cables can help a lot, but not always, and it's idiosyncratic--you really need to try them. The Cable Company does charge a modest fee for loaners--but they give you store credit for that same amount. It's basically free

Vampire cables were excellent in their day, and well made. I still have and use some of their solid silver ICs in my low six figure system. So try some more modern stuff but don't be surprised to find out what you have is fine in your system.

I've got two pair of their solid silver IC's from back in the day when they were still selling under the Sound Connections brand. Bought them at Hart Audio in Temple Terrace when I picked up my Snell Type A Series II's. I had forgot I still had them until I was going through the "spare cable" Rubbermaid bin looking for something.
