Default Solti: The Complete Chicago Recordings

This 108-disc set looks tempting...

Looks good. I will get it.
I saw this announcement and figured you might be adding it to your collection. I'm eager to hear your thoughts. I've had the Perlman/Vienna/Levine set for ages. I shunned period instrument recordings for the 'screech' of strings and 'blat' of horns, but recently started adding them for the variety if nothing else. I was very pleasantly surprised with the Carmignola/Orchestra Mozart/Abbado set of these, and am wondering how the Il Giardiono Armonico players compare. Please post a review.

Henryk Górecki - String Quartets 1 & 2
Kronos Quartet

I'm certainly not always in the mood for this.
But when I do listen, it is always a rewarding journey into dark landscapes...

Will do.

(Actually, I do prefer the "rough" sound of period instruments and interpretations to the smoothed over sound signature of modem ensembles.)

Default Telemann: Paris Quartets

In the meantime I've been listening to..

Telemann: Paris Quartets vol. 2
Quartet TWV 43: D3 in D major for flute, violin, viola da gamba & b.c.
Quartet TWV 43:a2 in A minor for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.
Quartet TWV 43:G4 in G major for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.
Quartet TWV 43:G1 in G major for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.

Telemann: Paris Quartets, Volume 3
Quartet TWV 43:h2 in B minor for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.
Quartet TWV 43:A3 in A major for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.
Quartet TWV 43:e4 in E minor for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.
Quartet TWV 43:h1 in B minor for flute, violin, viola da gamba or cello & b.c.

Florilegium

One word: delightful. The Channel Classics recording is fine but not their very best effort. I need to track down volume 1 which seems to be out of print.

Starting with Das Rheingold. Based of what I just heard, I can confirm that this is a magnificent performance / recording. Decca outdid itself with this reissue by putting the entire 15-hour Ring cycle in a single high-resolution Blu-ray disc (24-bit, 48kHz). Wow.
Today: Siegfried. 4+ hours of excellence.

Pierre Guédron - Le Consert des Consorts
Le Poème Harmonique, Vincent Dumestre

Wonderful music brought by arguably one of the best baroque ensembles in the world, with one of the most interesting voices (Claire Lefilliâtre).

Anthoine Boesset - Je meurs sans mourir
Le Poème Harmonique, Vincent Dumestre

Delightful.
Renaissance music with enough edges to keep it intense and attractive, even after multiple listening sessions.
