Thanks Richard. The fuses that came with the Omegas are slow blow 12A ones.
As said I am no tech at all, but understand in general the diference between slow and fast blow. Are you saying that to do the test I should use fast blow instead, so if there is something wrong they blow faster and do not damage anything else? Would not that had been taken into account by Classe and using the same slow blow as the originals should be fine? |

I am not suggesting using fast blow for testing. I would use the same type and rating as the original fuse. If the fuse blows again, I won't keep doing it since the rectifier may get stressed.

Personally I would cease fuse testing. The faulty amplifier has already blown two fuses which clearly indicates that the failure was not due to any mains supply anomaly or to a heat stressed fuse (they can fail naturally (though rarely) after very long periods of use, due to temperature stress of the fuse wire over time).
Time for the Classe techs to work their magic :-) |

Yes that is what I will do. Haven't been able to find these type of fuses anyway near home.
Just wanted to put a working fuse in the good amp to check it is still ok, since now it doesn't turn on either. Clearly the bad amp blew the fuse and that is why, but just to double check. Growing a little paranoic I guess. My dealer called me. He had spoken to the B&W / Classe importer and said initially they will look at it locally before deciding if they need to be sent to Canada or not. In any case they will not be able to pick it up until first week of Sep. One question I have for the techs. In the line of growing paranoic. Would it be possible that if it is a bad capacitor or whatever, that they replace with one with the same values so that it works, but a diferent model (inferior quality or whatever) so that the sound or performance is affected? I very much doubt they have replacements of this model in stock localy. Is this something that I should be alert upon and how could I double check? Or is something not possible and they habe to be the same? No reply so far tomthe mail I sent to Classe last week. Thanks all |

A Classe approved tech would certainly replace like for like. At that price point its very likely a component would be selected for sonics, temperature coefficiency, reliability etc. I wouldn't focus on capacitors alone, your problem could be any number of failure types. Solid state devices can fail short circuit as can some other components in power supplies, driver and output stages.
I had a failure of a power amplifier due to a short circuit by a small metal component left loose after assembly! There doesn't appear to be an issue with Classe reliability in web searches so I'm guessing this is a one off. Worst thing is to overthink it, might keep you awake at night ;-) |

+1 hope the Omega's are back in the system. Just taken delivery of CA-M300 mono's, initial impressions promising.
