Joe,
Day and Night difference between no subs and having subs. I have 2, a F-110 and F-113
I don't know about Rel, but JL Audio has a crossover to manage their subs integrated with your speakers & system. Their tech Randy Weaver is excellent at helping set up for maximum benefit out of the subs. Phone support too. They are in Miramar Fl. if you need service.
I have the Sound Doctor CD to adjust the levels.

Many thanks Fred for this information. Very helpful.

Although my dealer was helpful I received more help by way of a JL tech support individual. Also, they have extensive videos and documentation online. I personally did not talk to tech support but a fellow individual here did as we both went through setting our subs up at the same time. The tech provided step by step instructions integrating a 5.2 and 2 channel system together. My dealer didn’t even know the correct procedures when I questioned him. Keep in mind I’m using a men220 in the mix along with passthru from my av receiver.

You may be surprised like I was. My dealer had mine in less than 3 weeks when I ordered them in December. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

Thanks. Lots of good suggestions here. My dealer told me it’s also time to upgrade the amps too. I heard what the EMM MTRX2s did for the bass. So that may come first.

Subs or no subs.

My thoughts, in addition to your gear, your listening room can play a role.

I've moved several times with my gear.

Previous Room - My setup was in a 13' x 15' room constructed with cinder block walls and granite flooring. (Typical German House) With just the PMC MB2SE's we felt the bass was more then enough.

Moving into our current house with a 16' X 19' room constructed of drywall, wood and stucco (Typical USA House) using the same gear, we initially had no subs, added one and then a second to balance the system out.

Agreed. We are having architectural plans drawn up for a new dedicated listening room. We will be using vicoustics and some other stuff to help the room, special sheet rock, green glue, etc.

I have a different view of subs. I have PMC speakers and I do not feel I need to influence bass response. The designer has gone to a lot of effort with the x/o network and cabinet structure to ensure the sound is 'realistically' balanced. To add a sub from a different manufacturer with different sound characteristics which might also cause certain frequency cancellations is a risky move.
