I know we don’t talk about covid but I wanted to remind those in the higher risk groups that there are variants that even the vaccinated and previously infected still need to worry about. I would suggest avoiding unnecessary indoor gatherings for the time being…

Variant Iota

Despite a reduction in mortality rate following mass vaccination, an induction in infection fatality rate was estimated in New York City during the second pandemic wave. The estimations made by the scientists about variant-specific infection and mortality rates revealed that the B.1.526 variant increases the infection fatality rates by 46%, 82%, and 62% in individuals aged 45 – 64 years, 65 – 74 years, and above 75 years, respectively. Compared to previously circulating variants, the B.1.526 variant, overall, caused a 60% induction in the infection fatality rate.

Email from RMAF today:

RMAF 2021 is a go!
Sheesh! Marjorie goes out of town for a couple of weeks, and the rumors start flying! As we are all aware, the Delta variant has everybody wondering what the heck is going on and large events such as ours have been caught in the fray. We've been the victim of a couple instances of gossip and innuendo, but fortunately, a few of our friends had the good sense to call us to learn the truth directly from the source. We've heard that we are canceling, and we've heard that our exhibitors are backing out of the show in droves. Neither of these rumors are true! In fact, we are still booking rooms today!

As you probably know, we are waiting for the State Department to make a decision about whether to open our borders to international travelers. Not surprisingly, many of our international friends, both exhibitors and attendees have not made firm plans to come to Denver in October for this reason. So yes, RMAF 2021 will be a smaller show than in years past, but we are still selling exhibit space, and our exhibitors are not backing out. RMAF is still a great opportunity for domestic manufacturers to reach out to audio consumers, and for those consumers to test drive some of the best equipment available right here in the heart of the country!

One of the questions we received yesterday was whether or not the exhibitor list is a true reflection of who is actually showing this year. In other words, the person asked, are those companies all from this year? We hasten to assure you that our website, and hence our exhibitor list, is data driven and reflects only current exhibitors. It is most definitely NOT padded with exhibitors from past years! When you arrive at RMAF 2021, you will find every company listed on our website in the room we said they'd be in.

COVID Protocols for RMAF 2021
At a time when many people are understandably concerned about their health and safety, and yet still long for the chance to be able to hear great sound in the company of like-minded people, we want you to know that we are doing everything we can to ensure your safety. When you come to RMAF 2021, you will find these protocols in place:

Gaylord Health and Safety Cleanliness Standard.
Tri-County Health Department Guidelines.
CDC guidelines for Large Gatherings.
Look for turquoise stickers on exhibitor signs when masks are required.

The Tri-County and CDC protocols change periodically and this is a volatile time, so we suggest checking these links and our website regularly for updates.

We have the expectation that the audio community will be respectful and follow the local laws in place with good will regardless of personal beliefs.

If you have questions regarding RMAF 2021, please email us at info@audiofest.net.

We are looking forward to seeing you in October!

Marjorie and Marcie

Tell em to come through our southern borders that are wide open to illegals. Might as well get some legal immigrants coming in!

I read Marjorie's statement........to be really honest, that doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement for an audio show. The show wasn't very large two years ago, not sure what it's gonna look like now. You take away international travelers and people too scared to travel along with a few less exhibitors and you have a shell of what it used to be. I'm seriously considering passing on this years' show. AXPONA still looks like a full house but not sure if it would be too fun without all the AA crowd.

Yeah, not real confidence inspiring, was it?

I just went ahead and made a reservation for AXPONA at the Hilton Garden Inn, which has a $99/night Senior rate. Not a bad rate, considering that my two nights at the Gaylord will be over $500. Just in case RMAF gets canceled or doesn't seem worth the trip.

That’s not a bad idea, I’m off that whole weekend as well, I think we’ll know fairly soon so I’m keeping that option on the table as well.

Well, not surprisingly, AXPONA just announced they are delaying the show until April 22-24, 2022, due to exhibitor and attendees having expressed reduced interest in attending, due to the spread of the delta variant.

I suspect a similar announcement from RMAF soon.
