@khashmi did you ever get your 807 adapters? One thing I meant to tell you is that when I first got those Russian 807 tubes I hated them. Was going to throw them out kind of hate. At the time I only had the GE 6sn7 that came with the amp. Later on when I had a variety of tubes to use I put them back in by accident and was wowed. Took mew a little while to realize they were the same tubes I hated so much before. Makes me wonder how many times people have not liked certain tubes only because they never tried the with other combos.

Isaacc7: Thanks for remembering. Yes, I did get the plate adapters last week. I ended up getting them from Amptata on eBay and they look to be of good quality. However, I’ve been so addicted to the Visseaux that I havn’t had time to test the 807’s yet. However, that changes in a very dramatic way next week as I plan to visit another audiiophile’s house in Canada who has been using 807’s on his Decware Rachael for a quite a while but doesn’t have the Ferrantis. So I’m planning to take my Ferrantis with me to test on his rig and compare them to his stock. He is planning a blind listening session for me since he has both the Decware and the Coincident tube amp—looking forward to it!

A quick news item. Dennis was unaware that AA had a Marketplace and is interested in giving it a try. I told him to let me know what he wanted to try and sell there, and I would make it happen. A one off amp or perhaps a phono pre amp or two. I also have a boatload of the tubes Dennis uses in his amps, and will put some up for sale in the Marketplace as well when I have some time. Remember, you have access to the Marketplace as a subscriber, so make sure your subscriptions are paid up.

My tube rolling continues... Having decided that the ecc32 was out of my price range I gave up on it. Someone on another forum pointed out that the ecc31 was essentially the same tube but with a single cathode. With the right adapter, same as a 6n7 to 6sn7, I could use it. Ecc31 are quite a bit less expensive than the ecc32 so I couldn't resist.

I am getting some of the weirdest results I have ever gotten with a tube. It sounds like things are out of phase, no center image and everything is diffuse and big sounding. On top of that the midrange sounds wayyyyyy forward. On a whim I switched the polarity of one of the speakers to see if it was out of phase. Nope, same problem but worse. Just to be complete I did the same thing on the other side after correcting the first side. Same result.

I talked to the guy that made the adapters. He pointed out that if they were miswired I wouldn't get sound and/or there would be some bad consequences. So I don't think that's the problem.

Lots of folks said that as long as your amp can take the increased heater load, the adapted ecc31 would work instead of a 6sn7. Now that I look at the data sheet, the ra is about twice than that of a 6sn7. Is that what I'm hearing?

They will need some hours to open up. I'm not sure mine have fully settled in.
