Adjusting Movie Volume Levels
More than ever before I’m finding volume levels on Blu-Ray releases to vary substantially. The volume selector on my MX121 can vary from 0 to 12 to achieve the same volume from different movies. I find it hard to know what level to set when putting on a new movie.
Put on a Disney movie and you need to crank it right up. But then I put on Monster Hunter and the volume knob goes right down not to blow up my speakers??? Any tips on how you guys manage this? How do you know what level to set the volume when putting on a new disc (without watching half of it first)? At least THX use to set a standard, but THX seems all but dead in the film presentation game and there doesn’t seem to be any standards anymore. Any help on this?

Is this the “sound loudness wars” Take 2 that we have been having to deal with when listening to music?

Yes, the loudness wars. Disney releases use to be reference quality, but now they are bargain bin items at best.
