In the current Hi Fi News someone wrote in asking about this table and how it would perform with either the ProJect 12in arm or the SME 312s.

The answer was they hadn't heard it with the 12" but that the 9' was a better match for the table than the Ortofon. They also thought the SME was a great match.

This table has a large footprint. The minimum size for the 4 feet to sit on a platform is 46cm wide and 38cm deep.

Dan, they were saying that the 9" carbon fiber with one piece arm and headshell (which they recently tested) was a excellent design and was better than the Orotofon. They were saying there was no reason that the 12" would be any less worthy.

David.......The Laser Turntable has been around for a long time, but was not very reliable, so sales suffered in the US. The turntable has been manufactured in Japan for the past ten years or so, and from the different reports I have read through the years, it has been improved, and is reliable.

I have never heard the EPL Laser Turntable, but according to their website the jazz pianist Keith Jarrett endorses the ELP. The entry level laser turntable is $11K, plus shipping from Japan, and comes with a five year replacement warranty.

Without auditioning one, it would be out of the question for me.

11k for the elp tt is alot. The technics sl1200 believe it or not is sounding "pretty pretty pretty .... Good" as Larry David would say. This AT440 MLA is so clean and detailed yet background noise is almost non-existent. The stylus must be getting deeper into the groove because my ortofon cart./stylus displayed alot more surface noise.
