Running Macs at home. Using a late model Synology NAS to run Roon (also stores the music library). There are good threads on this in the Roon community forums. Very stable, just works.

But a M1 MacMini will run Roon, no sweat. I did this until I loaded the core onto the Synology.

I keep the core on an m1 macmini, use a zenith mkii as an endpoint.

Used to have the core on the zenith w/squeezelite option. Slightly better off the zenith, more importantly it resolved all the interface problems with skipping and memory leaks. Squeezelite option was a big delta in quality. I also plan on experimenting with eq again at some point and will need the cpu on the m1 to handle the convolutions (think I’ll try one of the commercial services to generate them). But first I need to settle on more diffusor placements. (more than anyone cared to know, but great the is always so much more)

Just a note you don't need 16 Gb of RAM, 8 GB is fine for Roon.

Default What are you using as a Roon Server ?

I think Roon still runs in Rosetta on the new macs. A friend said it runs fine.

I entered the world of digital with my Silenzio v1/2 - and loved it. I added to it with JCat NetCard and HD Plex power supply products.

Even with these enhancements, they paled to what my Antipodes K50 brought to my digital music.

I used a NUC11 i5 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. Installed Roon Core server using the free Linux Ubuntu LTS OS. Works great. Can attach USB hard drives or an internal SATA SSD for storage.
