Default Jazz recommendations

Hello,

I have really been enjoying Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, I really love listening to this album. I must say the 45's sound fantastic but it is kind of a bit of work changing it so often. This is the only jazz album I currently have.

Taking recommendations on what should be next.
I understand Bitches Brew is a must have, but who and what else?

Thanks

Miles Davis:

Sketches of Spain
Porgy and Bess
Someday My Prince Will Come
Milestones

The above are somewhat similar in style to Kind of Blue.

Bitches Brew is a whole new thing. Intense for sure. Bitches Brew was what led me to buy my first set of headphones.

Live Evil and On The Corner are two good companion releases to Bitches Brew.

On a whole 'nother level, Bill Evans, "You Must Believe in Spring," and his equally wonderful, "Conversations With Myself," are some of the most beautiful piano playing I've ever heard.

Bitches Brew is what got me into Miles.

There’s so many out there it’s thought to narrow down to some simple recommendations. That being said, several of my favorites include Miles Davis’ In a Silent Way, ‘Round About Midnight, Michael Legrand Jazz, and of course the 45 RPM version of Dave Brubeck’s Time Out.

To get some of the best recommendations, I’d encourage you to find Michael Fremer’s YouTube video of his top 100 analog album recommendations. It’s a great video that walks you through some of his favorite vinyl albums and why he like them. Jazz is the first topic he covers.

Most of us have the complete Miles; if you avoid his really early stuff, which is nice in it's way, you can't go wrong with the above recommendations, or anything from his Columbia label output. His output and influence were vast.

I don't think that the OP is asking about Miles Davis recommendations only.

Here are two must have jazz album:

Indeed, we'll be here all day, or even decade. Dennis better be looking to his laurels.

2 very good recommendations!
'My favorite things' is one of my absolute favourites.
'Olé' from the same John Coltrane is another.

Think also of Ella Fitzgerald if you like vocal jazz.
Her Songbook albums are top notch.

Bigband: Duke Ellington and Count Basie.

Contemporary: try to stream some ECM albums. You will find a lot of gems.

Jazz is alive and kicking, and modern recordings offer often very decent to excellent sound.

Can’t beat these "budget" Blue Note reissues to learn more about Jazz. Almost all full AAA at 33rpm so no having to flip every song or 2. Decent prices at Amazon.
