TAD Review in May Hi Fi News
Just received my May copy of Hi Fi News and I see there is a review of the TAD Reference series D600 (Digital player) C2000 (pre) and M2500 (power) gear. The later two are from TAD's Evolution Series.
Once I read the entire review i will post a follow up. Jim |

just bought the digital version.
Its a good review, we finally see the insides of the D600. The measurements however are disappointing. The Crystal clock TAD was touting doesnt give any particularly extraordinary low jitter data. Its all pretty standard fare in this high-end segment. I would even say that this review makes the D600 price tag hard to justify. |

I've read it too. Oh and they compared it to my ex-player, the Eso 03 Series.
I have to borrow this D600 to try in my system, a bit surprised that D600 convert DSD>PCM when play SACD, the same as Soulution players do, may be both use same DAC chips too. I love to have this lovely sound, but must hear if it sounds too pretty(like Accustic Art player). You can see inside of many TAD electronics clearly in the last few issues of Japanese 's Stereo Sound magazine. they are not as neat as Accuphase's, but more so than Esoteric's, however TAD is only one that make chassis from solid block of aluminum similar to Ayre X-R Series. toga |

Not only that but i also read that the TAD's digital input 24/192 support is bogus, since it downconverts everything to 24/88.
Very disappointing. |

But some says D600 is one of the sweetest sounding disc player.
So may be I will have to listen to it in my system before judging by the technical aspects. But this I had tried by myself, the touch sensitive button on the machine is very insensitive, better learn from Apple. Remote controller also very Pioneer like. Well and on my Esoteric P03, by up sampling CD to 88.2 make better tonality balance than to 176.4, so Pioneer may have to own reason for doing this, they claimed due to clock performance. I will reserve any judgement until I hear the unit, often the best sounding gear does not measure particularly well on the test bench. Did the review give listening impressions? Last edited by jdebonth; 05-03-2012 at 01:25 PM. |
