A corner
OK, would this work? My home theater is small. My front channel speakers are in the front corners of the room. My sub (JBL Project Array 1500) is in the center between the two L&R fronts with the center on a shelf over the sub. We all know the sub would work better in a corner. What if I build a very firm cabinet (box) for the sub to sit in such that the box would provide a corner directly behind the sub and it's port? The box would sit as a diamond shape such that the corner of the box would catch the subs port output and working as a horn re-direct the sound forward. Would that could that work to better give the sub a corner to work out of. Or.... would it just be best to leave it as it is sitting in front of a flat wall? What do you think? Any other ideas? Cheers, Frank

Frank.......I checked the JL Audio Fathom f113 owner's manual. They make a number of recommendations for subwoofer locations, none of which show the subwoofer placed as you have described. All of their placements involve the subwoofer being placed along a flat wall surface, not using the corner for horn loading.
You can always give it a try to satisfy your curiosity, but my hunch is it will produce too much bass.

No, we don't. All modes are maximized with corner placement and that maximizes output but not linearity.

I've read that a sub is better not placed in the corners of a room and perhaps best along the front wall near the main speakers. But you have to set it up as you like it. I would think that corner placment would over accentuate the bass.

It will work, may give of some extra standing wave IE more boomy bass in some locations in the room, but it should be OK for the most part with limited space.
