Default Shunyata Research

Most recently, this brand of Interconnects & Cables had captured my attention. Not because of the price it commands but more so for its affordability on their "entry level" stuff, especially their "molded" cables.

Well, the model that captured my attention was the VENOM 3 power cables ..... and you can all read and see the specs in their website. BUT for sure, the pictures dont do justice to real thing which is really, really exceptional. As I want some custom build lengths, I have to wait for one month before they are delivered.

As to Interconnects, the Aeros entry level model - Cirrus is another great example. I am going to ask for a home trial vs the Cardas Golden Reference which costs way more and compare the differences ... I would not be able to "quantify" the difference but surely, I should be able to share my experience with them and if they could tempt me to make the switch. Sometimes, costs does not mean a direct measure against the cables' performance worthiness.

Anyone with experience to share on Shunyata cables and interconnects?

Cheers!

Shunyata Venom 3

At S$195 Approximate US$139 for 1.5m piece. Not too bad.

For special length, like 3m ... S$350 or US$250 a piece.

I have seen it, touch it and even bend it. Looks - very well made and one can even see how the soldering works done. Simply first class workmanship. Normal thick in size and pretty flexible, unlike the Cardas which tends to be rather STIFF (more so for its diameter size).

Will update in a month's time.

Cheers!

Jerry...I have a Shunyata Hydra 8 passive power conditioner that I connect all my components to except for my power amp which is plugged directly into the wall. I have a Python Helix Alpha power chord that connects the Hydra to the wall outlet and a bunch of Diamondback Platinum power chords for my ARC CD and pre-amp as well as my Oppo player.

Hydra 8:

Python Helix Alpha:

Diamondback Platinum:

I can tell you that the product quality is first rate. The difference in sonics with the Shunyata power conditioner and chords was material - noise floor dropped significantly with blacker backgrounds, allowing me to hear into the music a lot more. Micro details were enhanced allowing me to hear more of the spatial cues in the recording. I think bass tightened up a bit as well but this was not as noticeable as the above points. I highly recommend the company. I believe Aerosmith also has their power chords in his system. I remember seeing them in his system pics so I am sure he can give you his thoughts on them as well. Good luck and enjoy them when they arrive.

Huh? If you mean I like the way these are made ... yes!

But its just that I wanted the change and also have some fun, thats why I go for this small change. A couple of hundred wont hurt my integrity with my wife.

Discovered the local dealer was selling the Diamondback Platinum the same as the Venom 3. BUT more Diamondback as they were all sold out. Venom 3 has the SAME specs ..........

I am NOT going to do the "entry level" interconnect - Aeros Cirrus cause entry level is like S$2.5k per set. That would mean I have to part with at least S$5k for 2 sets if they do make an impression on me. No siree! No more spending this kind of money anymore! Local dealer told me Shunyata does not make "entry level" products ... and for speaker cables, they start at US$5k per pair. Days like these are over for me!

So, just be happy and wait for the Venom 3 to come!

Cheers!

I've been using the Hydra 8 Version 1 for about two years along with the Python 20amp cables. I really like what it does in my system.
The blacker backgrounds, the extra details & immense see through soundstage is a big bonus! highly recommended.

I had pretty much all of teh snakes form Shunyata in my system and they sounded dull and lifeless the less expensive ones (keep a couple of them for Subwoofers.
The most expensive ones (the fatter snakes) sound very equalized and they spor treat teh music not really neutral in my opinion.
Kimber PK-10 gold and silver will enhance your components attributes depends if you want to tame (use gold Wattgate) or make more transparent use silver wattgate connectors.
Also acrolink with Oyaide plugs (Rhodium or gold) is way better than any of teh Shunyatas I had as well. very good indeed good value excellent cables.

JSCC,
I have to disagree with Gonzalo...i bought two of the Diamondback Platinum power cords when they were half off at $125 each. One of the best improvements I've done to my system. My results are consistent with Cyril heard, and I definitely heard an improvement in the bass. And I was one of those that was really, really skeptical about power cords, but man, was I impressed with the improvements they made! I am also impressed with the build quality of their products.

I also just saw that the Shunyata Venom3 was released, and my guess is that it performs as well as the Diamondback Platinum, which now looks to be discontinued from their lineup. My guess is the half-off sale was to move existing DB inventory before the new Venom was released.

Overall, I am quite impressed with Shunyata's products and will likely be buying a Black Mamba HC for my power amp at some point.
