Default Vintage McIntosh

Here's the rig that got me back into the 2 channel audio quest! McIntosh C28/MC2100 both upgraded by Terry DeWick, Thorens TD125 MkII, Yamaha T1020 tuner, Philips DVD963SA SACD, RG Pro16 Range expander, and Green Mountain Audio Continuum 1 speakers. Great Sound, then I discovered Magnapans
Regards,
Jim

Only parts of it, I'm afraid. Should have kept it for my vintage rig though.

ehoove.......Yeah, there's something about a C28, and a MC2100 that makes you want to listen. Good, clean sound. The rack is nice looking, too.

Yeah I have a classic Mcrig. c28 MC2105 and MR77. I'd really like to get a real c 28 manual and an MR 77 Sales brochure, cause I have all the other real paperwork to the stuff I have.

I don't want to waste bandwidth on a duplicate post, so you can see it here:
http://audioaficionado.org/selling/2...c8-preamp.html
but when I put this mono setup back together with an old JBL speaker, I realized I could be very happy with sound this good -- even in mono! Those guys knew what they were doing -- I wonder what they'd think of today's gear?

Neal.......My very first exposure to high-end audio was when I was about 12 years old. A friend on mine's father had a Fisher mono tube amp and preamp connected to a single JBL two way speaker, 15" woofer in a big bass reflex cabinet, with a horn and compression driver. I was completely mesmerized by the sound from his one channel system. That was when I got the hifi bug, and never recovered.

Dan, my Dad's first "hi-fi" was a Stephens (or is it Stevens?) corner horn with a Fisher receiver and a Garrard changer sporting a GE (I think it was) piezo-electric crystal cartridge. I don't even know how I remember this s**t as I can't remember what I did yesterday

Anyway, that somehow morphed into Mac tube stuff, a Thorens changer, and a JBL Hartsfield. Then along came stereo. My Dad wanted another Hartsfield -- which would have been fine; the living room was at least 25 x 40 but when Mom put her food down, I told them JBL had a new stereo speaker (the Paragon) that had the left and right all in one box! You never saw anyone look so dejected as my mother at that moment

He got some Mac separates, stereo solid state, and that was pretty much it (I finally sold the Paragon around 1994 I think, for 7 grand.) It was actually a terrible speaker because the front loaded horn was too short and the rear woofer enclosure was small and sealed, so no bass. The marvelous 075 ring radiators (tweeters) were blocked behind the ends of the cabinet; and the mid drivers never did give you "stereo anywhere in the room" -- whereas the JBL (two cabinet) Olympus, with the same driver complement, was one of the best speaker systems I ever heard . . . . . . . dammit Mom!! By that time, I was an audio fanatic. Living in an apartment in Cambridge MA, that was located right between the AR and KLH factories . . . . . . .
