Yep, price is crazy! Here in Canada 800 D3 and HTM1 MSRP was $43,000. Now 801D4 and HTM1 is $56,000.

I’m doing this because I think that the new D4 versions of these two speakers which I was waiting for are ugly. I’m ok with the look of the 803 on up, but the smaller speakers didn’t need to be changed and an 803 or larger won’t fit in my house. Just my opinion, but speakers are a piece of furniture and I just can’t see either in my house. My problem is that I can’t decide on which ones. I’ve been told by many that the 805 is actually the better speaker. Pair it with a small sub and you’ll have a killer system. Even if you add a sub to the 804, I’ve been told that an 805 sub combo will outperform an 804 sub combo because the 805 images so much better. Is this true? As you can see in my signature, I have an MC462 so I have plenty of power for either. What are your thoughts? Something to consider, I like to turn it up to 11!
Not for the first time--I sense we are on similar paths and I wish we could debate and challenge each other in person between tracks!

I bought my 805D3 and DB3D in significant part because my wife would not accept large speakers in our living room.

Of course, I am never satisfied, so the D4's have me wondering about 805D4...or maybe I can persuade her to 804? (because bigger must be better, right?) Except when I listen to my current speakers I think they are just awesome--they sure don't sound small to me.

So I am looking forward to your thoughts, and I will report in if I get "permission" to try the 804

The 805 is quite good but obviously the 804 is going to be even better due to additional drivers and larger cabinet. Both require a sub however. I know someone with an 804D3 and a sub by MJ Acoustics and it sounds like a full range speaker setup. If you wire a sub correctly it can integrate quite well.

I heard the 805D3 with Boulder monoblocks and it sounded stunningly huge for its size but the 804 is going to be even more stunning either in D3 or D4 guise. I have never heard an 804D3 or 805D3 not sound good in any setup.

The 804 is a very sleek and attractive speaker and if your wife is ok with the 805, the 804 should be fine. They are also very easy to install and move compared to something like an 803.

I agree and I think that it would be fun to debate all things audio. I find it to be a very rare occasion that I meet someone that enjoys this hobby like I do which makes Audiofaciinado a great outlet for me (thank you Masterlu). Most people think I’m crazy for the amount of money I have invested which isn’t much when I see some of the systems people on this site have. And like you, I also find that I’m never satisfied.
