MisterBritt, they are different enough you will have to hear the DD-66000.
I was not unhappy with them. I'm in the audio business so I trade a lot of equipment around. The 65's use magnesium compression driver diaphragms which have a softer attack and a different behavior in the 10-20khz region and beyond than the beryllium in the 66 and 67. Both the 65 and 67 have been rebalanced and improved for greater linearity. However the 66, at current market prices is unquestionably the best buy. The 65 does not really make sense as close as it is in price to the 67. It was brought to market mostly in response to the Japanese market. Don't be surprised if it is dropped from the line up at some point. |

I made my run to audition the three Everest models. It was brought to my attention that the 65s are only offered in zebra wood. Is that right? The zebra wood finish was excellent and I initially mistook it for ebony wood. I was initially interested in a pair of ebony 66s. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see that ebony finish. But the zebra looked awesome. So my understanding is the 65s are only available in zebra. Again, my understanding is the zebra is not offered on the other two, the 66s or 67s. It is exclusive to the 65s.

My DD-67000's come tomorrow, weather permitting. Then setup and break-in for a
a week or so. JBL's finish descriptions can be confusing. I do know that ebony is in fact not available on the 65 or 67, only the 66. Ebony has a darker grain structure with less of a red-ish hue than rosewood, but at a distance of 10 feet with less than lots of light, you might not notice the difference. What did you think of the 66 compared to the 65 and 67? I may have a line on a used pair of 66's. |

I did, however, listen to the 65s and 67s. They look great. As you might imagine, previous to my visit I had looked at basically every photo and video on the internet. Still I wanted to see what they looked like in person. Last edited by MisterBritt; 02-12-2014 at 11:03 AM. |
