Oppo BDP-95 on the way

A few days ago I finally caved in and ordered the new Oppo BDP-95 Universal Player. I want to put those 32Bit ESS DACs and the high-res USB to the test in my home theater and surround sound system. I presently have the Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition in the home theater system, and only have praise for its performance. Both the video and audio performance are excellent. I also have the Oppo BDP-83 in the living room connected via two channel to that sound system. I watch movies in the living room in stereo. Now the BDP-83SE will go into the living room system, and the BDP-83 will move to the master bedroom widescreen. The bedroom Sony BDP-S560 Blu-ray player will move to my office HT system, and the Panasonic DMP-BD10A Blu-ray player (my first Blu-ray) will move to my shop. Musical Blu-ray players, so to speak.

I ordered the Oppo BDP-95 directly from Oppo, as I did with my other two Oppo players. I prefer buying factory direct when I can. I feel I get the latest of everything that way, not a player that has been on a warehouse shelf at a retailer for some time, plus I get automatic warranty registration.

I am excited to get the Oppo BDP-95 in my studio home theater system. I have resisted the purchase, but continued to read the glowing published reviews and posted comments from owners. The BDP-95 price makes it a true audiophile bargain, in my opinion. I would not be at all surprised to see a price increase on this player next year.

This is a sweet machine for the money as we all know.
I have considered buying one and having Modwright do their magic with the tube mods as I expect it would be a giant killer for the money.

Other manufacturers should be taking lots of notes on Oppo, from the product down to the level of service they can offer.

When I first got my BDP-95, I reported some doubts about its performance when compared with my McIntosh machine. (MVP871) Those doubts have completely disappeared and i now feel that the Oppo machine exceeds the McIntosh in every area or performance. The two channel stereo audio is exceptional from the Oppo, and I now play it in preference to the Mc. Video, both DVD and BluRay, are as good as it gets! I do not use the machine for surround sound and can't comment on that part of its capability.

I'm a very happy and very pleased Oppo owner, and I look forward to your comments.

I am convinced that the audio performance improved dramatically during the first hundred, or so, hours of operation - so I would advise your giving the machine a little time to break-in before you begin a critical evaluation.

The level of customer service is second to none. They continue to upgrade the firmware for discontinued players like my BDP-80. I've been an Oppo supporter for many years.

I have the impression my Oppo kept on improving even after 200-300 hours.

I agree Dan. It is likely their new player next year will increase in price, just like the 83SE to 95.

Julian.......I will certainly give it a hundred hours or so of break in time before I do any critical listening evaluation. If you recall the direct A/B comparison I did between the McIntosh MCD500 and the Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition. http://www.audioaficionado.org/gener...sh-mcd500.html. I may decide to do the exact comparison between the McIntosh MCD1100 and the BDP-95. Since they both use the ESS 32Bit Sabre Reference DAC's I think a head to head comparison between the MCD1100 and the BDP-95 would be quite interesting.
