Ultra Mini's?
I had owned a couple of sets of the Ultra SS units a while back when I was using them with an ARC Ref 10 preamp and power supply but found that they seemed to thin the sound just a tad too much for my tastes. Does anyone have a point of view on the Mini's sound vs. the Ultra SS? I would like to try three mini's under a Bricasti M1 DAC. Curious to see what other users thoughts are on this. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide...

I believe Stillpoints places components such as DACs, players, and preamps lower on their priority scale after speakers, amps and power conditioners. The magnitude of improvement is not the same across all components. Typically amps have more/larger internal componentry that both causes vibrations (eg. power supplies, transformers) and benefits from vibration control (capacitors, etc.).
The UltraMinis definitely make a difference (all for the better in my experience) and the UltraSS make more of a positive difference. Between them it is more a difference in quantity than in kind. That stands to reason as there is a single technology pocket in the UltraMini. I suspect the way to know about your particular DAC is to try. By the way, wrt your REF10, did you get a chance to try the UltraSS only under the power supply w/out using them under the control unit? |

Great response! Thank you.
Yes, I tried them under both the Ref 10 preamp head unit and separate power supply. |

My experience is Ultra SS does everything like Mini but in bigger magnitude. If you find the sound of Mini a bit thin for your taste, try Ultra 5. Ultra 5 has much better balance, the tonal balance will not be drifted upward.
