New Kef LS50 Meta Major Breakthrough For Box Speakers !
Kef has found a way in canceling the backwave by 99% with their new Metamaterial Absorption Technology ! This is a major breakthrough for box speakers !
This is much better than the backwave canceling technology that Vivid, B&W and Yamaha uses ! Here's feedback on their Kef LS50 Meta speakers with this new technology ! More of their speakers coming out with this new technology soon ! https://www.lite-magazin.de/202/09/k...ltes-material/ |

Very cool.
“The central question is: How can a conventional material be modified so that it has the greatest possible absorption capacity, i.e. does not radiate vibrations again? The answer is MAT: the material is transformed into a metamaterial, in this case the surface is shaped to have a highly complex structure. This structure is reminiscent of a labyrinth with numerous canals. Each of the precisely calculated channels now absorbs sound in a precisely defined frequency range. In total, the channels ensure that supposedly 99 percent of the sound is absorbed - the sound disappears like in an acoustic black hole. This is a huge step forward compared to conventional approaches, with which a maximum absorption of up to 60 percent should be possible. This makes MAT ideal for use in loudspeakers, because it eliminates the unwanted sound emitted from the rear of the chassis.” |

And it gives you the best of both worlds...open baffle and box speakers!
Steve Guttenberg has TAD speakers too ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKTYvP7YQ0Q&t Last edited by Rick721; 09-24-2020 at 09:49 PM. |

PMC uses an absorbing material in their transmission line but takes it a step forward by allowing the deepest bass to exit a port in phase with the main.

Its likely fiberglass or Poly-fill; the purpose is to increase the "effective air volume" in the cabinet to enable lower bass response.

His shirt was a bit of a distraction the first few minutes in terms of trying to figure out the hidden meaning? The “meta” version sounds like a more accurate and less boxy sounding speaker but one that can be brutally revealing of bad recordings. Proper synergy with supporting gear will be more important with this version to strike the right balance. |

Might be a great match for the Meta's and future Kef speakers with this new technology.. |
