Default CDs the name...

...not my medium…lol. That means I am a one-source, digital streaming-only audiophile; but please don’t hold that against me. Audiophile is a dirty word to some…and music does come first with me; but I truly lust over gear too…so, guilty as charged.

I look forward to finding my way around AA. I’m a nooB here, but long-time, high-count poster at another forum…and it’s just not the kind of scene I dig much anymore. I won’t call them out by name, but…you get shouted-down if you admit to spending more than $10 on speaker cables, there’s a plethora of posts from college-kids, wanting to know the best CVs to use at their frat-house parties…and hardly any talk of music at all.

That’s not to say I’m a gear snob; can’t afford to be, even if I wanted to…lol. I’m a big bang-for-the-buck guy, and look to wring the best out of my modest, just-over-the-line 5-figure rig. I try to stay open-minded about all POVs, fall somewhere in the middle of the whole subjectivist vs. objectivist debate (with a slight lean to the left of the subjectivist side…just like my politics), and just love to talk shop (I also like the fact that passions like Whisky, Wine, and Women…not to mention good smokes, aren’t considered off-topic here! lol).

I know some guys who like to “set it and forget it”, but that ain’t me. I guess some might call me a “futzer”; an audiophile who can’t leave well enough alone. Maybe some day, I will have heard it all...or at least enough to have decided what’s best for me; enough to let things be. For now, I haven’t heard enough, and have too much curiosity about this, that, and the other too…not to want to try different gear pretty regularly.

As such...I came here, because I’m looking for opinions on trying my first C-J SS amp…and another member recommended the C-J forum as a good one. Reviews and the trades are fine to peruse, but I don’t trust them nearly as much as the opinions and findings of other enthusiasts. So I look forward to discovering the AA vibe, and hopefully being a positive, contributing member.

Welcome CD Thx for introducing yourself. As I am sure you know, there is a dedicated CJ forum, so you can post your questions there and get a lot of feedback from CJ afficionados. Once you hang out for a while, I am sure you will learn your way around and find out how useful and entertaining it is to exchange ideas/knowledge with other AAers. Hopefully, at that point, you will also choose to support the site by becoming a member. The red banner next to your name will look good and will help support the site to continue to cater to new and old members alike.

Welcome once again.

LOL...don't worry Chessman...my tastes don't all run to The Fiery Furnaces and Buzzcocks; what another member once called "Heroin" music (which is a total misnomer btw...I would shoot Smack more to the likes of Radiohead, Beck, Porcupine Tree, Portishead, et al. Oops...too soon for that kind of humor? ). I have my share of audiophile fodder; but man cannot live by Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Alison Krauss, and Patricia Barber alone!

After all...I was born right smack in the middle of The Age of Aquarius; 1967, when the world also gained Sgt. Pepper, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn...Mister Jimi Hendrix, and the Texas Pearl herself, Miss Janis Joplin. Point is, I'm a child of the 70s and 80s...and proud of it! I came-up on music, love it...and I gotz to keep it realz like that

The music-lover and audiophile in me tug of war sometimes. Often, I like a band or album very much, despite the fact...or sometimes, to an extent, because they are so decidedly lo-fi; it really is all about the music, and sound to them...not sonics. Sure, it doesn't sound very good through the 'ole Dynaudio 25s...but they always forgive me for it.

If I open someone's eyes or ears up to new artists or titles, that's very cool. The way I look at musical taste, is it is sooo hard to nail down...it's almost impossible to say "hey, I think you'll like this"; about the best you can hope to do is say "I like this", and maybe people will dig it too along the way.

I have a wide array of favs when it comes to Rock, Garage, Indie, Metal, Punk, New Wave, Funk, Folk, etc.; but I could really use a primer in good Jazz. I know all the mainstream stuff, like Miles, and Coltrane...singers like Billie and Ella; but I have a feeling that's like listening to Jazz radio...and the good stuff is the stuff not everyone knows about.

So I'm hoping AA can bring some of that to the table. AA huh; hello, my name is...I guess I'm the last in a l o n g line to make that joke, huh?
