It's spelled exactly the same way, but Music Collector adds another artist entry. Now the artists list has two Hank Mobley items and I have to merge them. That kind of poor data management happens all over the app. Also, you can't cut and paste. So if I get a new record of a work I have already, I have to retype all the info I added for the first, like the tracks, movements, etc. Everything in the app is crowded, non-resizable modal dialogs. It's one of the worst UIs I've seen on the Mac. When I complain to CollectorZ about the problems, they just get defensive about it and don't really listen to what I -- as a user -- need for this app. Usability is a big issue for me, and I've been in the software business a long time.

I hate this app, but it's about the only one with a data model that is reasonable for any music that isn't pop. It's a bad Windows port to the Mac.
I know they have been working on more mac Like version that is due out later this year.

I have not run into the issues you detailed in your post. I have multiple albums by the same artist and the only time I might see a duplicate is when you have Bruce Springsteen and then you have Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. It will also duplicate artists on when you have duets on a disc. For example Linda Ronstadt then again Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville.

I have several duplicate albums or a CD and LP. The program allows you to make a copy and then just edit the few lines that are different. You do not have to re-enter the information. For LP's (few of which are in the data base) I just use the CD then edit it to put the tracks on correct side and adjust for playing time differences.

You do know you can change most of the field names. I have done that so I can keep track of which albums are on which server and whether I have loaded a disc on mu iPhone. I have found very few limitations so far.

I am aware of all the features you mention. I don't always want to duplicate an existing album. For example, I might acquire a second copy of a classical work. I don't want to duplicate the album, I just want to copy and paste all the tracks and subtracks. I cannot do that. I have also changed field names, etc.

I am very well versed in the features and use of the app. Lots of Mac apps from Apple and third parties are really well designed and implemented, have beautiful UIs and are a pleasure to use, and often fun. Examples include Aperture, iBank, Numbers, DVDPedia, and so on. Music Collector is not one of these. There are lots of things I want to get done, but I just don't enjoy the time I spend with Music Collector. It just feels like an aged, old, klunky Windows application that no one took any joy to develop.

Welcome to AA !
You have two beautiful systems. We now have a Dynaudio dedicated forum.
I visisted Saint Louis in winter 1998 with my father. I had an interview at the University to enter a Post Grad program. Did not keep a good souvenir. I have not been accepted and our plane to go home was cancelled because of the snow. But the SLU was very impressive.
