I agree Marc and in my system the volume is too loud on position number 1.

What the heck?! I wonder why? I generally listen in the 18-30 range. My ref5 was always in the 28-45 range for roughly the same volume

I did not mean from a listening level. I tend to be in the same range as you for that. Just seems that going from zero to one is too loud, but the Sasha's are fairly efficient.

Gotcha! Yeah I know what you mean. When I have company over I have it at like 3. Unless of course they are here specifically to enjoy the stereo.

I too find 15-30 volume levels very satisfying. I used a dB meter and came up with this:
Volume 10 is 60dB Volume 20 is 65dB Volume 30 is 70dB Every 10 increase in volume is approx. 5dB increase. I am tempted to test out the GS150, but worried about loosing the sweet midrange that the Ref75se brings to the table.

Any particular model you prefer? The SA-Reference appears to be a very high quality and top performing piece.

I have heard the AR 5 SE with SA-103 driving Franco Serblin Accordo's as well as AR Ref 3 with SA-102 mono blocks driving SF Guarneri Memento and pure magic in both instances. |

Thanks, Douglas. Though very happy with the 601's sound, I'm a little concerned about their long term reliability as I've now had both of them have bias issues causing them to become much warmer (hot) than normal. Just outside of warranty, unfortunately. Keeping options open for next year. |
