Default MX134 -- 6.1 or 7.1 analog inputs?

I could not wait for the McBlu-ray player and opted for the new Oppo and to tide me over until the MX150 arrives, I must use the analog inputs of my MX134 in a 5.1 setting but it could easily be changed to a 7.1 scenario even before I move the toys into the dedicated HT room that has been under construction for, uh, a while...

There are 8 analog inputs on the back of the MX134 -- one of them is the sub input and the other 7 are speaker inputs and it showsone center, two rear surrounds, two side surrounds and two mains, but there are only 7 amber indicator lights on the front with a single light labled BS (back surround).

My aging, sieve-like memory seems to remember that the back surrounds on this pre-pro are summed together and not discretely separate.

QUESTION -- when using the analog inputs from a BD player on this pre-pro -- are the rear surrounds discretely separate so that I can have true 7.1 HD lossless audio?

Thanks,

MikeSp

Yes! The back surrounds are discrete if fed a 7.1 analog signal. If only a 5.1 digital signal is fed the 134 can sum info from the rear channels to feed the back channels.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new Oppo.

The 7.1 is still typically a matrix of the rear back's (or surround backs). It shows up in a single box so that you have nine pretty squares instead of an odd-ball 10th square that doesnt seem to belong anywhere. Don't worry, you are still feeding 7.1.

Excellent -- I can actually experience one of the few 7.1 HD audio sound tracks if I put the rear speakers back on line... while I await the MX150.
