A hi fi shop here in Dallas told me that they would become a dealer for Lamm-I'm still waiting. Those Lamm's that you have Serge look very nice. They remind me of early Mark Levinson-late 70's early 80's. That was state of the art back then- then came along Harmon International.

I definately have to say those amps look extremely burley, they remind me of the John Curl Parasound amp from years ago, but only the first 10 W were in pure class A, then it switched to A/B as to not melt people's processors.
It was an AWESOME amp when paired with ML, and I'm sure LAMM is on the completely next level in pure Class-A

There is nothing toobey about their preamps, where they bloom and billow is the 3 dimensionality and soundstage. The palpability factor is rather impressive. There is no added coloration or "warmth" from the tubes in the preamp and there is no need for it. The amps/preamp combination has just the right amount of weight, scale, impact and the tonality seems spot on to my ears. Like I mentioned before, they are not warm and fuzzy sounding nor are they lean and etched, just right! Seductive not for their forgiving and soft nature which they don't have but seductive for their harmonic content and a natural, relaxed, harmonically rich presentation. There's a newer version of the preamp LL2.1 coming. And just when you thought this is it huh! Nonetheless, the Lamms are great. Its just I was foolish back then (and maybe even today) that I gave them up! Oh well, progress IF I may say so ... to myself (as a consolation). And its so good to read your thread again! Cheers!

Serge
Will we get to see your final comparison of the 3 fine pre-amps you were working on last week? I am interested. Jim' Last edited by Still-One; 04-07-2009 at 12:06 AM. |

Serge.......Are you still planning the three preamp shootout? I was just getting into that when the sledge hammer dropped.

Do I have to make my signature invisible when I post on the Lamm forum? Lol

Yep, I plan on posting my findings soon. I've spent a good amount of time with each preamp taking notes and listening to a great deal of various music. I really had no intentions of posting it over there where it got kicked into obscurity where no one was really interested in it. Who cares what an $18k preamp sounds like when someone found a 35 year old preamp on the curb over by the trash. Right???
No Dan, you don't have to hide your signature. If you like Lamm, great, if not that's ok too. We all have various gear that turns us on the most. I still like McIntosh a lot as well. Last edited by PHC1; 04-07-2009 at 02:34 AM. |
