Attended a concert with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra that featured Canadian violinist Jonathan Crow. Enjoyed it quite a bit so bought one of his CD's.
Worth a listen in my opinion. |

Clearly Halloween draws nigh. The "Tristan und Isolde" and "Salome" are the scariest things I've seen so far this season.

Mozart: The Horn Concertos Peter Damm, horn Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Neville Marriner directing Philips 1989 An old favorite, an excellent performance from Damm and the Academy.

Britten's Orchestra
Now...
Britten: The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra Sinfonia da requiem Peter Grimes (Four Sea Interludes & Passacaglia) Michael Stern Kansas City Symphony Here is a "hometown" orchestra (ok, at least in the same state) showing off through a sonically impressive Reference Recordings SACD release. The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra is the orchestral showcase here. The other pieces are not bad either. Last edited by cma29; 10-28-2014 at 03:36 PM. |

Yeah Carlos, the Westminster Gold album covers were a treasure trove of tasteless, meaningless folk art - covering up some mighty mediocre recordings. .

I used the Sonata No.2 to compare these two recordings. For me, Kremer's disc wins both for his more powerful playing, rich tone, and better sound.
