Accuphase DP compared to PS Audio DS/PWT
Hi,
Has anyone compared the Accuphase DP550 or DP720 to the PS Audio Directstream DAC with Perfectwave Transport for Redbooks? If so, I would be interested in your findings. Thanks

I have not compared your choices. My peanut comments are:
Both the DP are SACD players, primarily and have substantial mechanical engineering for the Optical disc support and playback mechanism. The PSAudio rips CDs on the fly, and would have a linux type computer built in for audio processing and by the size of the unit, would have an OEM solution for the CD transport and not in the same league as the Accuphase models. It doesn't play SACD either. As for SQ, the PSAudio design would sound like computer audio. |

Although you are correct about the ps audio ripping in the fly and not playing sacd, the rest of your statement is incorrect. It plays dop encoded DSD as well. And what does "sound like computer audio" even mean? |

In the other thread someone described the DS DAC as being analog sounding.

Thanks for the replies.
How would the Accuphase DP550 or DP720 compare to the Esoteric K-03X?

Feed the DAC garbage and there's little it can do to make it sound good. |

So you're saying the PWT is feeding garbage?

Whether or not the DP-720 player is a good buy depends on how one looks at it. On one hand, if one compares it to the previous generation of Accuphase players, DP-720 is an updated DP-700 that costs only 2-3k more than DP-600 (in Europe DP-600 costed 15k while DP-700 22k). From this perspective, DP-720 is a very good buy. On the other hand, DP-720 can be seen as a very expensive player who is already dated. This because of its inability to play DSD files via usb.
Having said all this, I should also say that I am a proud DP-720 owner who is very happy with the unit (even though I do not sound like it). Last edited by nvp; 08-04-2015 at 11:42 PM. |

The PWT, Bridge, USB and optical have all been very good sounding to me.
