options for amplification upgrade for me
Hi,
After living with Magico Q3 for awhile, now I know I will keep them and sell Sophia3 and Salon2, then I will have some more fund to upgrade amplification. First I will have to select new source as I sold Esoteric 03/03 already, it will be either Accuphase 900/901 or Esoteric 02/02. Then here are lists of my plan 1. keep ARC Ref40 as preamp, replace Moon W7M with 1.1 D'Agostino Momentum or 1.2 Constellation Centaur Mono or 1.3 Accuphase new 200watt class-A 2. replaced Ref40+Moon W7M with 2.1 Accuphase C3800 + Accuphase new 200watt Class A I guess all should sound wonderful, but 1.1 and 1.2 will cost me the least I guess. Any suggestion regarding mismatching ? What I hope to get is to remain speed, transparency and dynamic energy that Moon W7M provide, but with sweetness, ease and warmth added, I listen mostly new age jazz, vocals, classical, pop, rock, heavy metal, piano solo, never rap and opera. Toga- given the level, including price, of the equipment you are considering, can you get a dealer (or two, if necessary) to let you try these various units in combination in your system? I can't weigh in on your question with respect to these pieces, but even if somebody thinks the "XYZ" is dramatically better than anything else, unless all the variables are the same, it's going to be very hard to extrapolate that. I know why you are asking- re basic and obvious mismatch, but beyond that, before you lay-out the dough, you really should have an opportunity to hear the combination(s) in your system.

Sure I will do that, just looking for suggestion in case of obvious mismatch like Whart said.
In the past, $20,000 amps were considered great. Now all charge 40,000-50,000 for top models, that's even harder to make decision, one wrong move means $$$ disaster. Toga |

Why not try a conrad johnson tube set? ART mono blocks and GAT preamp. Can't get much better than this.

ronenase, thanks, the way I use my system necessitate big solid state, and balanced XLR inputs. I use this amp as front channel in home theater system too. a pair of long XLR from pre/processor run into preamp. I've tried all tube once with Ref4+Ref250, they did make beautiful music, on certain types of music, but with home theater/concert, and certain type of music, I still prefer speed/power/punch of big solid state.
