Default Getting back into flying with a Gee Bee

My son knew that I always admired the great Gee Bee Z, R1 and R2 planes from the 1930's, a racing plane built by the Granville Brothers Aircraft. With an odd looking fuselage and a quite powerful Pratt and Whitney R-1340 Wasp engine, the Gee Bee went on to win the 1932 Thompson Trophy as well as setting the world speed record of 296 mph. So what better present to get Dad if he is getting back into the hobby?

Here is what my son got me for my return to the hobby. I've been practicing flying the Gee Bee on the sim diligently. Looking forward to the maiden flight shortly.

Now all the pieces are connected. Just remember that on the street you don't get another quarter.

Happy flying..........

Those planes must require a lot of skill given they are basically all engine and very little control surface.

I fly a plane with a jr wasp engine. Strong right rudder required! You can torque roll these planes on take off.

Which plane is that Richard? I feel safer on the ground with a radio in my hand than in one of those vintage racers... I think many know the Gee Bee was not kind to pilots.

Dehavilland beaver (dhc-2)

R-985 engine.

And it's no racer! Very slow plane.

I live them! Nice classic plane that has been around since the '40's?
